Friends
Yeah, I fucking watched all of it. Not much to say about Friends because it wasn’t revolutionary or anything, was it? I really loved it at the time, but all it did for me, other than make me laugh at sex jokes as a child, was make me pine for a neurotic, dinosaur obsessed boyfriend.
YOU GUYS. I watched so much Touched by an Angel. I wanted my voice to be deep and full of heavenly wisdom like Monica. But did you know there are 212 episodes? 212 (and more!) different people hung out with some angels and were reminded that God loves them. WHAT? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? I don’t regret watching TbaA but how was it a show on network television? Okay, best part; I found this in the trivia section of TbaA’s IMDb:
Despite going against Della Reese’s better judgment, she was the first and only choice to audition and reluctantly won the role of Tess, thanks to the Lord’s insistence.
HOW THE WHAT? Are you telling me the Lord served as casting director on Touched by an Angel?
The Inbetweeners
This shit is Cristina’s and my jam. Just about every episode made me for real cry with laughter (Jay and Neil!) and/or legit cringe and want to shrivel and die (Simon and Will, oh goddddd).
Inbetweeners movie this summer! Holla!
Lost
This was the only non-sitcom I ever watched religiously with my mother. And, because English is not her first language, I spent the majority of my time watching Lost explaining Lost. It kind of helped figuring everything out by verbalizing it. Like everyone, I hated Kate since day one, shifted back and forth between Locke and Jack (Locke won, ultimately), and loved the shit out of the rest of the cast. I couldn’t deal with season 3, but got back on board with season 4. I had a lot of feelings during the final season, but the Jacob/Man in Black dynamic and the whole Michael Emerson being the best actor on television thing did it for me.
(I’ve been wondering lately what Lost would have been like if it were structured as a UK show and had 6-13 episode per season. There would have been no filler episodes and probably less questions to go unanswered. If the world were perfect, I believe Lost would have happened this way but whatever/c’est la vie.)
patriceratops asked: -secret diary of a call girl (it's on itv and it stars billie piper)
-no heroics (only had one season on itv :( but it's hilarious)
-parks & recreations, 30 rock, community, modern family (duh)
Thanks, Patricia! I’m on top of everything you suggested besides No Heroics, so I’ll definitely check it out.
Extras
This show is good. Stephen Merchant kills it in every scene he’s in, Gervais is always the right shade of lovable asshole, and Ashley Jensen is sweet and terrific. I’m not one to be swayed by celebrity guests, especially when they’re as frequent as in Extras (I guess it was the point), but Daniel Radcliffe definitely stood out as the horny version of Daniel Radcliffe. The plot always moved slower than other sitcoms and sometimes the whole “awkward” thing got a bit repetitive, as well as the whole “I WANNA BE SO FAMOUS” thing.
But the Christmas special/series finale is one of my favorite things ever. Gervais’ Celebrity Big Brother rant sends shivers up and down my spine every time I watch it. When he says “I’m too scared”?! When his voice starts to crack and he looks at the camera?!?!?!?! WHEN HE SAYS HE’D BE THE PENGUIN?!?!?!?!?!!? Ugh.
nstochasticity asked: By the way, Thunderbirds was more of a joke and if you're gonna watch Chronicles you gotta power through the first season unless you're a diehard terminator/sci-fi fan. Fringe, however... well let's just say it'll blow your mind.
I will take joke answers. I need to watch ALL of the (good-ish) TV! Thanks for the advice. I’m stoked to start Fringe.
Mad Men
Since we’re not going to see Season 5 any time soon, here’s my take on what’s happened so far on Mad Men. Don struggled with this super secret past, then it wasn’t so secret to us, then he finally told someone (who was amazing), and then he married that damn Meghan. At least, that’s what I’ve been mostly concerned about. Betty had some issues, Sterling Cooper had some issues, Thally Draper had MAD DRAMA, but Don’s relationship with his past and Anna were what got me the most. And the episode in which she died was the most powerful, after the episode with the “nostalgia literally means pain from an old wound” and the Harry Crane crying thing.
And Joan Holloway is pretty dope too.
It sucks that my favorite show has had only 17 episodes in almost six years. However, every episode is perfect. All the politics, all the swearing, all the Glenn Cullen. (“I AM A MAN!”) The Thick of It is a show I can watch over and over and still catch little gems in. It makes me want to be an angry Scottish spin doctor so badly.
In The Loop is incredible as well.
jenniferjoy asked: idk if you've seen it, but include Party Down.
ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?
Of course! HOW COULD I MISS ALL THAT HOT ADAM SCOTT BEING KIND OF MOPEY ACTION? I’ll put it up soon. And I’m definitely going to watch Archer and Breaking Bad (I’ve only seen the first few episodes and feel terrible about it.) and then finish the last episode of Summer Heights High. Thanks for the tips, gurl!
